"...an
excellent book!" This book follows in the tradition of FF Bruce's 'New Testament Documents'. As with the book before it, this book is sound academic research of the factors involved in biblical-study, whilst being accessible to any one who is interested in the issues. There is the sense that what Kaiser writes comes with a weight of knowledge behind it. His treatment of the Old Testament, studying its origins, its evolution and finally its preservation, alongside examinationf of the history, narrative and genres found within it are all concise and clear. His discussion of the reliability and relevance of the Old Testament for us today is succint and compelling. Kaiser continues to establish himself as a leading evangelical writer, with a book that whilst not being fundamentalist, fully enters into discussion with scholarly debate and is robustly evangelical. It is an excellent book that deserves to take its place alongside its sister volume on the New Testament, as a Christian classic. |
